CoralRealm University - Field Trips

Indonesian Octopuses

Coral reef communities are home to an incredible array of marine animals. In fact, it is this very diversity that attracts most divers to this ecosystem. One diverse group of invertebrates that has become a favorite with many divers are the mollusks. This group contains some of the most attractive animals on the reef (e.g., sea slugs), as well as some of the most intelligent. Behavioral studies have shown that many cephalopods (the class of mollusks that includes the nautiluses, cuttlefishes, squids, octopuses) learn quickly, have complex ways of communicating, as well as large behavioral repertoires.

Come along on a CoralRealm University virtual "field Trip" to learn more about this diverse group of animals. These field trips feature beautiful images of octopi in their natural habitat, narrative text and even video clips to illustrate specific behaviors.
