Sleeper Gobies (Valenciennea spp.)
 |
| Just one of the Sleeper Gobies you will learn about in this feature article.
|
The genus Valenciennea is comprised of 15 species of gobies that are found on or near rocky
and coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific. The genus is often collectively referred to as sleeper
gobies, although they shouldn't be confused with the sleepers, which are goby-like fishes in the family
Eleotrididae. These gobies employ feeding and reproductive behaviors that are
fascinating for divers to observe and photograph.
In this Featured Genera we will look at this
interesting group of gobies. This includes links to 12 species accounts with information on
distribution, habitat, biology, where to see them, how to approach them, and how to tell the
difference between species.
