The Ways of the Hinds (Genus Cephalopholis)
Text and photos by Scott W. Michael

Hind
The highly-predatory, peacock hind.
The grouper genus Cephalopholis, whose members are commonly referred to as hinds, contains 22 reef-dwelling fishes. Seventeen of these fishes are found in the Indo-Pacific, two in the western Atlantic and one in the eastern Pacific. Most hinds grow to relatively small sizes, compared to other groupers. But many are just as conspicuous as their larger serranid relatives because of their bright colors.

In this CoraRealm article, we will look at the biology of these beautiful groupers.
