Hawaiian Cowries - Introduction
by John P. Hoover, CoralRealm Advisor
Because of their isolated position in the North Pacific--farther from any continental land mass than
any other major island group--the Hawaiian Islands harbor a great many endemic species of birds,
plants, fishes and invertebrates. This includes nine species of beautiful cowries prized by collectors
worldwide. Our emphasis at Coral Realm, of course, is on finding and observing the live animals
underwater, not in taking live shells.
Join us in a look at Hawaii's endemic and other cowries from a
diver's point of view.
