Article Summary:
Tiger Tucker
The tiger shark is well-known to lay persons and shark enthusiasts as the "goat" of the elasmobranch clan. Almost every popular book on sharks dwells on the tiger sharks propensity to ingest nonedible items, like tin cans, tennis shoes, plastic bags, perfume bottles, license plates and lumps of coal. While it's true that the tiger shark has a very catholic diet, these types of items do not make-up the bulk of the tiger shark's diet. This shark exhibits wide dietary breadth, consuming a fascinating array of marine and terrestrial prey. In this CoralRealm feature article we survey the food habits and feeding behavior of this super-predator. This comprehensive article includes some of Roger Steene's photos of tigers taken on the Great Barrier Reef.
