CoCo Island Costa Rica
Isolated Beauty with Abundant Marine Life
by Terry Majewski

Between October 25 - November 3, 1996 we traveled to CoCo Island Costa Rica to dive with Hammerheads sharks.

CoCo Island is located approximately 330 miles Southwest of the Costa Rican port town of Puntarenas. The trip to CoCo Island takes 30-26 hours by boat. We traveled about the Undersea Hunter, a 90 foot live-a-board diving vessle. Along with a crew of 7 there were 13 passengers, all divers.

After arriving at CoCo Island we spend 7 days diving around the island on offshore islands and uderwater seamounts. The visibility ranged from 40-80 feet. The water temperatures was 78 degrees except in upwelling currents and below thermoclines. Most dives were at a depth of 50-90 feet. On some dive sites there were strong currents that necessitated finding a big rock and holding on tight.

Enjoy!
